QRimb FAQ

Answers for climbers and gyms: what the app is for, how it works, and how to use it your own way.

QRimb is being built for indoor climbing across bouldering, top rope, lead, and beyond. These are the most common questions we get from climbers, gyms, and people seeing the project for the first time.

For climbers

Where does QRimb work?

At climbing gyms that have joined QRimb and put QR codes on their routes. You can also browse gyms and routes in the app.

Do I need to use the QR tags?

No. You can use QRimb to track your own climbs without relying on QR tags for everything. You decide what you log, how you use the app, and what you share with others.

What if I'm not sure what QRimb is for?

The main idea is simple: QRimb helps climbers keep track of what they climbed, add friends, see what their friends climbed and when, get notified about their activity, customize their avatar, and remotely check what routes are available at a gym. For gyms, the main value is being able to track their routes in one place and share that route information remotely with climbers.

About the project

Where did the idea come from?

The idea came from a very common problem at the gym. People would talk about climbs they had done in the past, try to find old beta videos, wonder whether they had already sent something, or ask how someone else did a route. Strong climbers often stopped tracking progress because it became too messy, and newer climbers had no easy way to see what others climbed, when they did it, or what beta they used. We kept running into the same questions: did they do it, how did they do it, and can they show me? QRimb was built to give climbers and gyms one place to keep that information alive instead of losing it in memory, chats, and random camera rolls.

Pricing and support

Is it free?

Yes. Free to download and use. Premium features unlock until Level 10; after that a subscription keeps full logging and stats. You can buy the subscription with in-game currency, so if you climb often, you don't have to pay real money.

What if I don't want a subscription?

You can keep using the app without one. You'll still be able to browse all gyms and routes, view your profile and stats, and use the app to explore. You only lose the ability to log new climbs and perform actions that require Premium.

For gyms

I run a gym. How do I add my routes?

Contact us and we'll get you set up: add your gym and routes so climbers can scan and log. You get ready-to-print tags to run yourself, or we can help with printing. It's completely free at the moment.

Still have a question?

We're open to feedback, feature ideas, and questions from both climbers and gyms.
